Many of our current Chevrolet vehicles are equipped with passenger compartment air filters. These filters are known by numerous names in the automotive industry such as , passenger compartment air filter, cabin filter or HEPA filter. Regardless of the name they all perform the same function.
The filter has a very fine filtering media and is designed to remove 100% of the debris including tree fluff, dust and pollen from the incoming air to the heating/ventilation system. In most vehicles there are three different locations to access the cabin filter and they are:
These filters require replacement every 12-24 months depending on the weather and environment to ensure proper operation of the heating and A/C system. More frequent replacement may be needed if you drive in dusty areas with heavy traffic.
The main symptom of a restricted filter is poor air flow into the cab of the vehicle. When this occurs you can get poor heating in the winter or poor cooling in the summer, windows fogging up, bad odors from the system.
