With vehicle restraint systems improving day by day its important to wear your seat belt to keep you in your seat should an accident occur.
Today’s vehicles are often criticized for what people think is excessive damage when there has been an accident. Think of the external body panels of your vehicle as a sphere and you being in a protecting ball or zone within the center of the vehicle. The external panels are designed to crush or crumble and absorb the impact while the seat belt and restraint systems are to protect you from bouncing around in the interior. They are designed and built this way to protect the occupant.
There are many different safety systems in today’s vehicles including, steering wheel airbag, roof rail or curtain airbags, seat mounted side impact bags, seat belt pretensioners, passenger seat sensing systems, seat position sensors, and roll over sensors. All of these items are designed in conjunction with your seat belts being properly fastened and adjusted. There’s a great deal of information in an owner’s manual that’s specific to your make and model which I recommend reading.
In celebration of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s 50th anniversary they performed a crash test between a 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air and a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu. The results were remarkable to say the least.

Following maintenance guidelines key to auto's longevity
Published in the Edmonton Journal: Friday, November 20, 2009
Hidden away in the glove box of your car or truck is a valuable book that can save your money and keep you abreast of your vehicle's maintenance needs. That book is the owner's manual and some of the most important information it contains is the maintenance schedule. Following those guidelines helps you avoid breakdowns and unnecessary repairs, while maintaining the value of the vehicle. When the time comes to sell the vehicle or trade it in on a new car or truck, maintenance will make a difference in the value.
Paul Hrynew, service manager at Lakewood Chevrolet, said good maintenance helps in getting that extra $500 when the vehicle is sold.

With the excessive snow we’ve had this winter, and customers still requesting winter tires many have asked about the benefits of Nitrogen (N2) over “regular air” or Oxygen (O2) in tires.
There are many articles regarding the pros and cons of N2 verses O2 in tires. The marketers of Nitrogen have suggested that some of the benefits include the improvement of your vehicles handling, fuel economy, prolonging tire life, and a cooler running tire temperature by providing a more “stable pressure” gas N2 verses O2.
The air we breath is 78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen, and 1% is a small mix of other gases.

Before you decide to “chip” or “reprogram” your vehicle for better performance or fuel economy, consider the implications to your vehicle warranty. General Motors has recently introduced new warranty procedures designed to detect unathorized alterations to a vehicle. They will terminate the warranty on the powertrain and related components if they discover these types of alterations.
For many years aftermarket or performance based companies have offered increased performance and/or fuel economy by electronically adjusting the engine parameters. They do this by adjusting the timing, fuel pressure, the amount of fuel injected, transmission shift points and other calibrations to the vehicle to get what they think the customer is looking for.
